Reserves 9-1

Posted by Will on 19/01/2012 22:24:07

The Reserves put NINE past Wigan tonight.

Patrick Bamford scored FIVE (and created three)

Need I state the obvious.....?

Will, this result was in the FA Youth Cup (Under 18's).  As good as this scoreline is, the gulf between youth and Championship football is massive. But to score 5 goals at any level is impressive.  Does anyone know anything about this Patrick Bamford?  Would he have the physical attributes for an immediate step-up? (Even as a bench warmer?)

Yes my mistake... Youth Team, not Reserves.

Don't know much about him apart from he's represented England at U18 level and made a couple of sub appearances for the senior team (Forest that is, not England).

I appreciate the gulf in quality and potential physical disadvantage, but one thing he would bring is confidence and the ability to play without fear... and lets face it, he'd have to be really pretty awful to fare any worse than the 7 or 8 strikers who have represented us so far this season (Tudgay aside perhaps).

Reminds me a little of when another 18 year-old by the name of Michael Owen was breaking through, scoring left right and centre... although clearly good enough in everyone else's eyes, Hoddle refused to start with him, to England's ultimate cost at France '98. If they're good enough, PLAY THEM, regardless of age.

Lascelles also returned from injury last night... if he doesn't finally get a look in with Morgan/Chambers out then I can't see when he ever will. My view is we should be building our team for the future around these two, and Kieron Freeman, and potentially McGugan and Raddy too if they can get their acts together, rather than looking to has been's like Boateng/Greening/Harewood/Reid/Derbyshire etc.

Going to that game last night was like stepping back in time.  Good open on-the-ground football with NO CHEATING, no one going down like a sack of spuds cause someone looked at them, consequently the ref was virtually invisible.  Cottrill said that he thought the pitch was too large, well these lads revelled in it, unlike the old farts in the first team.   I went down hoping to see a Forest player score a goal at home for the first time this year and they only go and score NINE.   Bamford is big enough to hold his own in the first team but who will supply him with the ammunition?

5 - 1 away to a strong Southampton side tonight and BAMFORD 4 GOALS.  NINE IN TWO GAMES, WHAT MORE DOES HE HAVE TO DO?

The fuckwits that run our club will let the whole of this youth team slip through their grasp whilst they are still scratching their arses worrying about Financial Fair Play!!!!!

We have to start playing him sooner rather than later!

Anyone who scores 9 in two games at any level is worth an opportunity. Give the guy a game Cotterill you twat!!!

On 25th Feb Forest Youth will play either Chelsea or West Ham at home (hopefully at the City Ground) because the first team are due to play Birmingham City away on that day.  Which team will Bamford be in?  Anyway I for one will be going to see this team again if it's at the City Ground and I will be glad to see as many of my friends there as possible.

Bamford/Chelsea - How much is an ego worth?  Chelsea may face us in the next round of the youth cup, wouldn't be nice for the Russian's ego to get the same treatment Wigan got would it.   Bamford can't play for them but if they buy him he can't destroy them can he?
