Brian Clough's first game in charge of Forest was in January 1975, that season we finished 16th in this division. The following season Forest finished 8th and finally in his second full season we were promoted after finishing 3rd. The difference between then and now is the access we all have to instant news and the fact that apart from winning the FA cup in 1959 (incidentally my first season as a Forest supporter) we were a small midlands club who won bugger all. Back in BC's time there was no Transfer Window and the great man raided Leeds for McGovern and O'Hare, who no one else had gone for. He then added Lloyd on loan but I don't remember any other signings of any significance till we went up. Back to the present, Billy Davies got us out of the shit in his first part season, then 3rd in his first full season (unfortunately play-offs this time round see us still in the same division). We now have the history that makes some of our support think that anyone we dane to make a bid for should come running even if it means taking a pay cut and some idiots calling for the manager's head three games in. As for Martin O'Neil and Robbo forget it, A few years back Daviet, MeatLoaf and myself attended an evening session where Robbo and Archie Gemmel were appearing. At the time MON had just left Celtic and was taking time out from football, when we asked Robbo if they would ever come back to Forest all he would say is "Your in deep shit!" and laught it off. The point of all this, is that even if we don't get anyone in by the end of the month I think we still have a good enough squad to challenge again this season if we do not allow ourselves to be bullied out of playing football on the ground.
Very good point there wings!
you certainly won't find me calling for BD's head and the O'Neil rumours is unsettling the club far too much.
I agree with you that our first 11 are good enough for the Play Offs.
However when you bring players on such as Tyson, Adebola and McGugan, they're just not good enough to fight at the right end of the table!
I truly feel Billy is the man to take us forward. we need to get over this Play Off hangover and in my opinion we need to bring in 2 or 3 experienced heads to help us to win when we're not playing well!
Let our season begin on Saturday with a convincing win agianst Delia's canaries!!
